Shandong to invest 16.63 billion yuan to develop education in 2019

Shandong to invest 16.63 billion yuan of provincial budget for key projects in 2019, based on which to effectively promote the implementation of policies concerning people’s livelihood, support the deepening of comprehensive education reform, expand high-quality education resources and give priority to education.

According to relevant officials, 8.8 billion yuan of the provincial budget was appropriated as fund for the balanced development of basic education, to ensure funding for compulsory education in urban and rural areas, support local governments in improving conditions for primary and secondary schools, and expand preschool education resources through multiple channels and in various forms. 5 billion yuan was allocated to improve the connotation of higher education, promote the construction of high-level application-oriented universities for the “Double First-Class” initiative, carry out projects with education serving the transformation of driving forces, and advance the basic capacity of private higher learning institutions.

A total of 350 million yuan is to be allocated for basic capacity building in vocational education, supporting the development of high-level vocational schools and professional clusters, and the demonstrative, high-quality and characteristic secondary vocational schools, and implementing free education for normal university students, normal university students’ internship volunteer teaching program and other special plans. A total of 2.16 billion yuan was allocated for student financial aids, with the full amount of student grants from kindergarten to university included in the budget to ensure the smooth implementation of various funding policies.
