Consumer prices rise by 0.4% year-on-year in October

Consumer prices rose by 0.4% year-on-year, a drop of 1.9 percentage points from the previous month in Shandong, according to data released by the official investigation team. The consumer prices rose by 0.4% in urban areas and 0.6% in rural areas.

In October, the prices of food, tobacco and alcohol rose by 2.6% year-on-year, resulting in a rise of about 0.81 percentage points in the CPI (Consumer Price Index). In the category of food, prices of fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, aquatic products, and grain rose by 16.5%, 6.6%, 6.0% and 2.8% respectively, and prices of eggs and port decreased by 4.1%. Prices of catering abroad increased by 4.8%.

The prices of the other seven categories saw four “ups” and three “downs”. Prices of medical care, of education, culture and entertainment, of clothing, and other supplies and services, rose by 1.4%, 0.4%, 0.1%, and 2.7% respectively. Prices of transportation and communications,housing, daily necessities and services dropped by 4.3%, 0.6%, and 0.5% respectively.
