Torn amid his calligraphy practice, Wang Xizhi often forgot to eat and sleep. He always kept considering the structure of Chinese characters and wrote on his clothes with his fingers when he was walking or having meals. Once someone asked him to write characters on a piece of board to make a horizontal inscribed plaque, when the worker inscribed he found that the board was penetrated by ink in three fen (about 33mm). Afterwards, when talking about somebody’s calligraphy has forceful strokes that can penetrate well into the wood or someone has incisive analysis, people use the idiom Ru Mu San Fen.
