24 Solar Terms: End of Heat

The traditional Chinese solar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms, each spanning 15 days.

End of Heat, (Chinese: 处暑), the 14th of the 24 Solar Terms, implies that most parts in China are getting rid of the hot summer and entering autumn.

End of Heat, or Chu Shu, begins on Aug 22 and ends on Sept 6 this year. "Chu" means "to end" in Chinese, and "Shu" means "summer" or "heat." This is a solar term reflecting the change in temperature. It is not until the heat of the summer days finally subsided can we bid goodbye to the sweating season decently.
