17-year-old from Linyi girl beats three Japanese rivals to claim Breakdancing World Title

2025-12-17

Linyi, Dec. 14 - Rising Chinese breaker Pu Guo delivered a stunning performance at the 2025 Breaking World Championships women's event here, defeating three Japanese contenders in a row from the quarterfinals onward to secure the gold medal. This victory marks China's first-ever world championship title in the sport of breaking.

Guo, born in 2008 in Linyi, East China's Shandong province, reportedly began her dance journey after a breaking coach recognized her musical talent at the age of 7. She had previously studied electronic keyboard and singing in her childhood.

Her competitive breakthrough came in 2018 when, not yet 10 years old, she won the women's title at the "All Under One Roof" breaking competition, becoming the youngest champion in the event's history. She successfully defended her crown the following year.

At the 2021 National Games of China, Guo finished sixth in the women's breaking event representing Shandong. In November this year, she earned a silver medal for the province at the 15th National Games.

This past June, Guo achieved a double triumph by winning both the Asian Youth Championships and the Asian Championships in Shanghai. After her victories, she remarked, “The Asian Championships were much tougher than the youth event. Winning the gold again came because I truly danced for joy this time — I completely let go on stage and just focused on expressing myself. I hope to win more honors for my country in the future.
