Linyi in Shandong province is quickly shifting from a logistics hub to a smart manufacturing base, using its vast freight network to support the production and application of new energy commercial vehicles.
On May 7, 67 customized DeepWay new energy heavy-duty trucks were delivered in Linyi Lingang Economic Development Area to logistics companies like Rokin. This underscores how the city's mature logistics ecosystem is becoming both a testing ground and market for green commercial vehicles.
Linyi has 136 specialized wholesale markets, more than 2,200 logistics companies and over 200,000 operating trucks, with more than 200,000 metric tons of goods handled daily. Its new energy industry value chain comprises 181 enterprises with an output value of 34.07 billion yuan ($5.02 billion) and a production-sales ratio of 97.6 percent.
"We have both policy support and rich market conditions," said Juan Xinyang, vice-mayor of Linyi, noting that the city's short-haul, trunk-line, and bulk logistics demand aligns with the strengths of new energy heavy-duty trucks.
Shandong Reach Electric Vehicle Co Ltd and DeepWay are supporting the transition from different segments of the industry value chain. Reach focuses on lightweight new energy commercial vehicles, while DeepWay, backed by Baidu, specializes in intelligent new energy heavy-duty trucks and works with qualified customization partners, including Shandong Reach.
DeepWay's Linyi base delivered 5,028 trucks last year, generating 2.3 billion yuan in output value. Xu Yanbo, manager of Linyi Wansen Supply Chain Management Co Ltd, said the company's 62 DeepWay trucks had traveled 610,000 kilometers, saving about 4.21 million yuan a year compared to diesel vehicles.
Equipped with charging and battery-swap networks, digital fleet management, and a 1,500-mu (100-hectare) supporting industrial park under construction, Linyi aims to establish itself as a national center for new energy commercial vehicle manufacturing, application, innovation, and services.
