Cherry picking season to kick off in Xiawei Town of Yishui County

In May, cherries are ripe all over the mountains and plains in Xiawei Town, Yishui County. The valleys and villages are dotted with the fruits; the leaves and branches sway gently in the wind, and pickers keep busy. 

As a major sweet cherry production base north of the Yangtze River, Xiawei Town has a cherry planting area of 38,000 mu, with an annual total output of 15 million kilograms and an output value of 360 million yuan. Its planting area, output and output value account for about half, a quarter and a quarter of Linyi City respectively. 

It is reported that the opening ceremony of the 2026 Shandong Yishui "Come for Love, Gather in Xiawei" Cherry Picking Season will be held on May 23 at "Yimeng Old Market" in Wangzhuang Village. On May 27, a Cherry King Challenge Match will also be held, inviting professional judges and public reviewers to taste and score together, with the "Cherry King" and various awards announced on site. At that time, practitioners in planting, processing and sales will gather to attend this cherry feast.
