Journalist revisits dream guardian Liu Xiuxiang after 18 years to record his inspiring struggle story

Eighteen years after the first exclusive report on Liu Xiuxiang's story of carrying his sick mother thousands of miles to attend university, the original journalist reunites with the national Most Beautiful Teacher at Linyi University for an in-depth follow-up interview.

In June, the full-length reportage Dream Guardian, documenting Liu Xiuxiang’s life journey, was officially published. As an outstanding alumnus of Linyi University, Liu endured extreme hardship in his youth, persisted in studying while taking care of his mentally ill mother, and later chose to return to mountainous Guizhou as a teacher to help impoverished rural teenagers pursue education dreams.
