Feixian hand embroidery, a provincial intangible cultural heritage rooted in Yimeng mountain villages, boasts a history of over one hundred years and unique local embroidery techniques different from famous national embroidery schools. It uses native cotton cloth and more than 20 stitching methods to create handmade ornaments with herbal fillers.
Local inheritors built standardized intangible cultural heritage workshops and launched over 1,000 products covering 24 categories. The craft has obtained 131 copyrights and 17 patents, with an annual industrial output of more than 10 million yuan. Training courses have benefited 24,000 rural women, offering flexible jobs for stay-at-home villagers, the disabled and low-income families. Its products sell well nationwide and are exported to Singapore, Australia, Sweden and more than 10 overseas countries. The craft frequently takes part in national and international cultural exchange exhibitions to display Yimeng folk culture.
Century-old hand embroidery turns traditional fingertip craft into a featured rural economy. It realizes living inheritance of intangible heritage and creates a replicable women-driven vitalization model for mountain villages in Linyi.
