National amateur xiangqi contest unfolds amid beautiful countryside scenery in Yishui

The 11th National Amateur Xiangqi King Contest Shandong Division — Yishui Beautiful Countryside Xiangqi Championship launches in Yishui County. With the theme “charm of Yimeng, smart travel in Yishui”, the event innovatively combines traditional Chinese chess, national fitness and rural tourism.

Competitions are divided into weekly rounds, monthly rounds and a grand final, running from August to December. The final is scheduled in December. The contest sets total prize money of more than 100,000 yuan and opens registration for amateur xiangqi players nationwide.

Breaking the limitation of indoor stadiums, many matches are held outdoors at Moshang Huakai scenic zone beside Bashan Reservoir. Chess tables are arranged along the lakeside. Competitors play chess against the backdrop of hills, lakes and rural landscapes, creating a unique integrated scene of sport and countryside.

While competing, participants and tourists can visit local scenic spots. The event explores a new model of “sports plus cultural tourism”. It helps activate rural consumption and promote brand influence of Yishui's countryside tourism.

Organizers hope the event can carry forward the charm of traditional Chinese chess culture, drive rural vitalization and draw more visitors to appreciate the landscape of Yimeng mountain area.
