The 26th Shandong Province Sports Games concludes successfully in Linyi

The 26th Shandong Province Sports Games drew to a successful close on September 5 at the Gymnasium of Linyi Olympic Sports Park. Linyi fulfilled its host mission and handed over the official provincial‑games flag to Dezhou and Liaocheng, co‑host cities of the 27th Shandong Province Sports Games.

As the first edition hosted in the old revolutionary Yimeng base, the Games ran from August 26 to September 5. More than 13,000 athletes from 16 prefecture‑level cities across Shandong competed in 38 major sports categories and 1,081 minor events, setting new records for scale and number of competitions in the provincial‑games history.

The closing ceremony featured delegation entry, national anthem performance, award presentations, highlight review clips, flag‑handover ritual and a closing artistic show. It paid tribute to athletes, coaches, referees, volunteers and all behind‑the‑scene support personnel. The promotional clip for the next host cities was screened on‑site, extending the sports relay from Yimeng mountain area to the canal cities of Dezhou and Liaocheng.

The event integrates Yimeng's red heritage, Langya traditional culture and modern urban vitality. Linyi completed all hosting tasks following the principle of “simple, safe and splendid”. After the Games, competition venues will be gradually opened to the public for mass fitness activities, so that hosting achievements can benefit local residents in the long run.
