Frost's Descent: Linyi marks the last solar term of autumn

Linyi marked Frost's Descent, or shuangjiang, the 18th of China's 24 solar terms, on Oct 23, the point at which the autumn season draws to a close and cold air moves south.

The solar term falls around Oct 23 each year and traditionally marks the transition from autumn to winter, when frost begins to appear in northern China and persimmons ripen.

Persimmons are among the seasonal foods associated with the term in Shandong, and the fruit features in local imagery around this time of year.

China's 24 solar terms were added to UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016.
