Linyi opens free after-school care centers for children of new employment groups to solve parents’summer childcare worries.

A care site inside a courier sorting park in Luozhuang District opens daily from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., including weekends, with regular catering services at noon. Cao, a sorting worker of Shentong Express, sends his son here every morning. He said the center completely solved his long-standing trouble of leaving children unattended during holidays.

The project is jointly initiated by league organizations, communities and enterprises. Ten care spots are distributed across Luozhuang District within a 15-minute reach for working parents.

Besides basic childcare, the centers deliver diverse themed courses including stories of the Six Yimeng Sisters, intangible cultural heritage paper-cutting and calligraphy, passing on the Yimeng Spirit to teenagers in an entertaining way.

A mixed volunteer team consisting of community staff, enterprise employees, college returnees and youth specialists provides all teaching and accompanying services. Each site is equipped with full-time head teachers, security guards and complete safety management rules covering pick-up registration, venue patrol and food safety.

The pilot service launched during winter vacation has served more than 500 children of delivery workers, online merchants and other new employment groups in two phases. Local authorities will expand the coverage of free care services to benefit more working families.
