JUNAN, Shandong — The finals of the “Qilu Bank Cup” Ironman Triathlon, a key event of the 26th Shandong Province Sports Games, kicked off on August 24 at the Ji Long He National Wetland Park in Junan County, Linyi City.

More than 150 athletes from across the province gathered at the scenic wetland venue to compete in the multi-discipline race, which combines swimming, cycling, and running. The opening day saw fierce competition in the men’s categories, with Zhao Jiahe from Zibo claiming victory in the U16-and-under group, and Zhang Cheng from Zaozhuang taking top honors in the U17–18 division. The women’s races are scheduled to begin on August 25.

The racecourse was deliberately designed to weave through the wetland’s pristine ecological landscape, offering competitors an immersive experience of Junan’s natural beauty while showcasing the county’s commitment to green development. Local authorities highlighted that the event serves as a vivid example of the integrated development of sports and tourism in the region. Building on the momentum generated by the Games, Junan plans to further leverage its ecological and cultural resources to promote high-quality growth in the sports, culture, and tourism sectors, reinforcing the county’s strategy of fostering synergy between athletics and the local economy.

This year’s provincial games continue to emphasize not only athletic excellence but also the harmonious coexistence of sport, environment, and community development—a vision that aligns with broader efforts across Shandong to advance sustainable and inclusive regional progress.
