Salmon two-site breeding industry thrives in Yunmeng Lake, Mengyin

2026-06-29

Inland large-scale salmon breeding faced widespread bottlenecks across northern China due to strict requirements on water temperature, dissolved oxygen and water quality before the ecological development project of Yunmeng Lake.

Yunmeng Lake in Mengyin County maintains Class II water quality for 25 consecutive years, with stable dissolved oxygen and pH value that fully meet salmon's survival standards. The county adopted closed-loop circulating water breeding technology without any wastewater discharge to the lake water source protection zone. Young salmon grow in freshwater workshops for 16 months before being transferred to coastal mixed water domestication bases and offshore intelligent net cages via land-sea relay breeding mode. The project has 200,000 breeding fish, drives over 30 local jobs and increases income for village collectives through land transfer and industrial dividends.

Mengyin's eco-friendly two-site aquaculture creates a sustainable path of lucid waters bringing wealth. Linyi will expand characteristic cold-water fish breeding projects and realize coordinated development of ecological protection and rural common prosperity.
