Linyi builds new energy industry with output exceeding 38b yuan

Linyi  has seen its new energy industry gain strong momentum, with 186 enterprises above designated size generating annual output value of more than 38 billion yuan ($5.35 billion), according to the 2026 Linyi New Energy Industry Chain Promotion Conference held under the theme "Green Linyi, Shared Future."

The city has pursued integrated development across wind, solar, energy storage, hydrogen, power transmission and charging, building a complete and coordinated industrial system. Once a revolutionary base area, Linyi is now following a path that pairs its revolutionary heritage with green growth.

Linyi has favorable natural conditions. Annual wind power generation hours range from 2,000 to 3,000, and solar power generation hours reach 1,200. The city still has development potential of more than 10 million kilowatts for various types of new energy, and its pumped storage resources exceed 8 million kW. It produces more than 13 million metric tons of biomass a year, while current industrial by-product hydrogen capacity stands at 2 billion cubic meters and is expected to reach 4 billion.

The city holds 73 kinds of mineral resources, with diamond reserves ranking first nationwide and glass-use quartz sand reserves of 730 million tons ranking first in the province, providing solid raw material support for the industry.

Linyi, known as China's logistics capital, has 750,000 freight vehicles, with more than 2,000 replaced annually. Electric heavy trucks account for 12.9 percent of the fleet and demand for public charging piles exceeds 100,000, indicating huge potential for new energy substitution in logistics. Installed capacity of new energy and renewable energy has surpassed 11 million kW, while grid peak-shaving and storage demand exceeds 3 million kW. The province's first dedicated hydrogen line has begun operation, and 14 million tons of steel capacity is exploring hydrogen metallurgy.

The city is focusing on four tracks — energy storage batteries, new energy materials, photovoltaics and hydrogen — to attract targeted investment, and has established the Linyi New Energy Industry Technology Research Institute, which brings together 24 national and provincial sci-tech innovation platforms and 42 specialized and sophisticated enterprises.
