Pear industry conference held in Fei county to boost high-quality development

The 2026 Shandong pear industry high-quality development conference, hosted by the Shandong economic forestry association, was held in Datianzhuang township, Fei county, Linyi, East China's Shandong province, on Oct 13 and 14.

Participants included staff from 12 pear system demonstration counties under the national pear industry technology system in Shandong, along with more than 50 agricultural technicians and large growers from Fei county. Officials from the Shandong agricultural technology extension center and experts from China Agricultural University, Nanjing Agricultural University and the Shandong pomology research institute gave lectures.

As a national pear industry technology system demonstration county, Fei county reported on its achievements during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) period and its key work plans and measures for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) period, drawing high praise from attending experts.

Since being designated a demonstration county in 2009, Fei county has continued to introduce new pear varieties and promote new cultivation techniques and models, building high-standard demonstration orchards and developing distinctive fruit brands. Its Fengshui pear has been named a "famous Chinese fruit," its Yuluxiang pear won the top award at the second national "Good Pears of China" tasting and promotion event, and its Qiuyue pear has been certified as a national famous, special, excellent and new agricultural product. The county now has 38,500 mu (2,567 hectares) of pear orchards, with total output of 55.92 million kilograms and total output value of 167 million yuan ($23.5 million). The pear industry has become an important pillar for income growth in townships including Xuezhuang, Feicheng, Dongmeng and Tanyi.

The county said it will use the conference as an opportunity to further optimize its variety structure, standardize production and promote its brands, advancing the pear industry toward larger scale, standardization and branding.
