Linyi held its first training course on English proficiency for lawyers handling foreign-related cases on Oct 22, with 30 lawyers taking part in what the city describes as a first for Shandong province.

The course was organized by the municipal justice bureau and run by the Linyi foreign-related legal service center and the Linyi lawyers association. A foreign instructor led the classes, with international students serving as teaching assistants.

Content focused on practical scenarios: legal English vocabulary, reception and conversation, cross-border consultation simulations and hands-on exercises, delivered through immersive teaching and role-play.

The training responds to demand created by the city's Going Global, Connecting the World campaign, under which local merchants and companies have expanded into overseas markets. Linyi Trade City now trades with partners in 220 countries and regions, raising demand for lawyers who can communicate in foreign languages and handle cross-border matters.

Lawyers who took part said the course addressed communication barriers in cross-border negotiation and legal consultation. The city said it will run the training on a regular basis.
