A company run by five village collectives in Fangcheng town, Lanshan district, Linyi, East China's Shandong province, has turned wood processing waste into a pet products business that now ships more than 20,000 orders a day and exports to 13 countries and regions in Europe and the Americas.
Shandong Xingwang Innovative Development Co, founded by the village collectives of Dongzhuwang, Xizhuwang and three other villages, processes wood offcuts and local crops into pet furniture, bedding, food and snacks — products that previously would have been sold off cheaply or discarded.

"In the past, wood offcuts were a burden — we sold them at low prices or paid to dispose of them. Now they are in demand," said Min Fanxing, the company's legal representative.
The company operates a 7,000-square-meter workshop with six production areas and carries more than 6,000 product varieties across six categories. It has brought in the pet brand Bukaxing and a professional operations team under an equity partnership between village collectives and the operating company, with production linked directly to a smart cloud warehouse.

Wood waste is only part of the model. The company employs villagers within walking distance of their homes, and runs a childcare corner staffed by student volunteers during holidays. Village collectives hold equity through land, buildings and cash, earning both rent and dividends totaling 4.05 million yuan(845,000) a year in production costs.
Annual sales have reached 420 million yuan (1.01 million) to 13 countries and regions.
