During a visit to Mengyin County, Linyi, Wang Long, an international student from Linyi University, feeling hungry, was taken by Lotus, a reporter from Linyi International Communication Center, to taste the county’s most renowned specialty — fresh mutton soup.
Upon arriving at a local restaurant, Lotus invited Wang Long to taste the food and introduced that the star dish, mutton soup, is made from the unique black-red goats of the Yimeng Mountains. These goats have a long growth cycle, are mostly free-range, and are slaughtered fresh daily to ensure freshness and tenderness.
Noticing the restaurant’s popularity, Wang Long asked about the daily goat consumption. The owner replied, “We consume dozens of goats a day during festivals, especially on local traditional festivals like the 6th day of the 6th lunar month, the 15th day of the 7th lunar month and the 15th day of the 8th lunar month.”
When asked about the soup’s secret, the owner emphasized, “There are no chemical ingredients — everything is pure natural.” Wang Long tasted the soup with baked wheat cake as suggested by Lotus, a reporter from Linyi International Communication Center, praising its rich fragrance and exclaiming, “It’s really delicious! Another bowl, please!”
Mengyin’s fresh mutton soup, with its pure natural ingredients and unique flavor from Yimeng’s local goats, is a must-try specialty that showcases the distinctive food culture of Linyi.
