Linyi rolls out a three-day lineup of cultural activities from June 19 to 21, inviting residents and visitors to spend the Dragon Boat Festival weekend enjoying local folk customs, reading, and engaging in hands-on workshops and family programs.
The festive atmosphere will begin at the Langya Riverside with a garden fair themed around Qu Yuan, the patriotic poet associated with the festival. Six folk-custom zones and intangible cultural heritage photo spots will be arranged at the central square.
On June 20, the fair will feature land-and-water performances, including blessing parades, traditional rituals, a night tour lit by thousands of lanterns and hanfu flash mobs, creating an immersive Chinese-style holiday scene.
Public reading programs will add an educational focus. Linyi Library will hold an anti-bullying session on June 20, helping young people recognize bullying, respond with courage and strengthen self-protection. It will also host the third Feng Zikai Chinese Children's Picture Book Award reading club, guiding children through the Chinese picture book Farewell, Little Woods to explore nature and personal growth.
Several cultural venues will turn time-honored traditions into experiences people can participate in. The Former Residence of Wang Xizhi will introduce the origins and customs of the festival, along with sachet sewing.
Linyi Museum will pair folklore education with a baduanjin exercise experience on June 19 and host a Father's Day parent-child program on June 21.
The Museum of Bamboo Slips from Yinqueshan Han Dynasty Tomb will offer a Song brocade (a silk textile known for its intricate craftsmanship) wind chime workshop, while Linyi Confucius Temple will present sachet making, parent-child games and a summer solstice bookmark class.
