Rural extravagant weddings, expensive betrothal gifts and lavish funerals once created heavy economic burdens for villagers in Donglihu Village, Hedong District. The village rolled out a standardized five-step working mechanism to foster simple, civilized rural customs.
Party members took the lead in signing commitments, while village rules clearly capped betrothal gifts below 30,000 yuan and banned costly funeral performances. A village wedding and funeral council supervises all ceremonies. The village built free ecological public cemeteries and one-stop government service stations, paired with village broadcast, rural opera and civilization rating campaigns to reward model households and restrain bad customs. Funeral expenses dropped by 70 percent, and neighborhood disputes halved.
Linyi will popularize Donglihu's reform model across villages, deepen the promotion of new social mores, and build harmonious, thrifty civilized countryside communities.
