Farmers take leading roles in shaping civilized rural customs in Yimeng area

Civilized rural vitalization in Yimeng Region centers on local farmers as core participants, who independently set village rules, narrate revolutionary stories and inherit traditional crafts.

In Daicun Village, Lanling, villagers jointly formulated regulations to limit expensive betrothal gifts and grand wedding and funeral banquets, with collective public halls built to cut residents’ ritual expenses by over 20 million yuan in two decades. In Donggaozhuang Village, Yinan, local farmers formed amateur art troupes to stage 230 immersive red performances, receiving 47,000 research visitors. Villagers in Linshu inherit willow weaving intangible heritage and offer handcraft training to left-behind women for extra income. Farmers turn passive management into active participation, forming self-driven civilized customs.

Letting farmers be the main force of rural cultural construction stimulates endogenous vitality of villages. The people-oriented civilization model provides valuable experience for rural spiritual civilization construction across Shandong province.
