Mini rural operas have become a vital cultural carrier to nurture sound rural customs in Linyi, the birthplace of the Yimeng Spirit. Local villagers act as writers, performers and audiences, with residents lining up to follow new episodes of original rural plays.

Linyi has created more than 300 rural opera scripts focusing on frugality, filial piety and rural revitalization, and staged over 4,000 touring shows covering all 14 counties and districts, benefiting over 1.2 million villagers. Grassroots folk bands made of elderly farmers use self-made homemade musical instruments to stage free performances. The city has built over 5,000 village cultural squares and cultivated 167 rural performing troupes with 1,780 amateur actors. Mini operas turn abstract policies into vivid rural stories, effectively eliminating extravagant wedding and funeral customs.

Rooted in local life, rural mini operas activate the endogenous cultural vitality of villagers. They form a replicable cultural governance model that integrates ideological publicity and custom improvement for mountain villages in Shandong Province.
