Digital technologies revitalize museums across Linyi

Museums in Linyi gain huge popularity this summer with AI, XR and digital archives bringing ancient cultural relics to life.

Against continuous high temperatures, Linyi rolled out over 200 cultural tourism activities. Digital intelligent museums stand out as a trendy leisure choice for young visitors. Linyi Museum and Yinqueshan Han Bamboo Slips Museum entered national hot museum rankings in Q2 2026, with daily visitor volume exceeding 10,000 at three venues including the North City branch of Linyi Museum. Visitors under 35 account for more than half of all guests.

Linyi implemented the Star Project for digital cultural relics, building a city-county integrated digital museum network covering all county-level museums in the city. All cultural relics are digitally archived and managed on a unified cloud platform to share cultural resources across the region.

NFC tags and AI tour guides are installed on key exhibits. Visitors can tap their phones to trigger professional audio explanations, 3D models and interactive Q&A sessions, turning static display into vivid story-telling.

XR immersive exhibitions become core highlights. Prosperous Tang Dynasty bilingual XR show, immersive Confucius experience and myth-themed interactive projects at Yinqueshan Museum use naked-eye hologram, VR and AR technologies to reconstruct historical scenes. Tourists can travel back to ancient times through digital devices.

Digital culture also drives consumption growth. Museums launched AI portrait mini-programs, cultural and creative products inspired by unearthed relics and digital research courses for teenagers. Cultural creative sales doubled this summer. Local cultural institutions will further develop multi-modal AI and immersive display technologies to create more digital cultural experiences for visitors.
