A community program combining sports and health services was held in Xiang'er village, Xianggong subdistrict, Yihe New Area in Linyi, East China's Shandong province, on Sept 26, as the city celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival and the upcoming National Day holiday.
Designed to bring sports and health services to residents' doorsteps and deepen the integration of national fitness and public health, the event featured five recreational activities: pitch-pot, standing long jump, slalom running, ball rolling and single-rope skipping.
Villagers of all ages turned out in enthusiastic numbers, queuing in order at the pitch-pot area, competing in the long jump and slalom running, and drawing cheers as balls hit their targets. Volunteers encouraged participants along the way.
A free medical consultation booth was set up at the venue, where medical workers measured blood pressure and blood glucose levels, provided health consultations, guidance on chronic disease management and medication advice, and explained scientific fitness methods, daily healthcare and disease prevention.
The event is part of local efforts to integrate fitness and health services at the grassroots level. Xianggong subdistrict said it will continue to advance this work and regularly organize sports and free clinic activities to expand the supply of cultural, sports and health services for residents and raise their sense of gain and happiness.
