Changlu town in Mengyin county, Linyi, has launched a public reading campaign at village libraries under the theme "Golden Autumn Reading Season · Book Carnival," encouraging residents to love reading and to read good books.

At the village library in Xibeilou, shelves are neatly stocked with books covering history, literature, science and art. Villagers arrive early to pick out books, sit together to read, look up information and exchange thoughts on what they have read, enjoying reading time amid a strong literary atmosphere.

Qin Ming, a villager of Xibeilou, said reading about vegetable cultivation and pest control helped him learn cultivation techniques and integrated water-fertilizer management, which he has applied in the field to improve the yield and quality of his vegetables. "I will keep reading to acquire skills, grow vegetables with science and technology, and increase both output and income," he said.

To further promote public reading and enrich cultural life, the town has used its library and village libraries as cultural venues to hold a variety of reading activities, stimulating villagers' enthusiasm for reading and helping them gain knowledge and broaden their horizons.

"Through the reading campaign, we want villagers to read more and read better — to learn farming techniques, acquire skills, broaden their horizons, foster good family traditions and improve village customs, making reading a new trend in life and filling the mountain village with the smell of books, so as to help build a harmonious and beautiful countryside," said Qin Yuanhong, Party secretary of Xibeilou village.
