Linyi vocational school wins silver at world skills competition

A team from Linyi Senior School of Finance and Economics in East China's Shandong province won a silver medal in the secondary vocational group of the logistics and supply chain track at the 2026 World Vocational College Skills Competition, which concluded in Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, on Sept 28.

Fifty elite teams from across the country competed in the event. The Linyi team ranked second in its parallel group and sixth overall, setting a record for the school in a world-level competition and for the city since the event adopted the new track — a breakthrough from zero.

The competition tested contestants' practical skills, data analysis ability and teamwork. The four team members — Zhang Jiaxin, Zhao Yingying, Wang Yixian and Zhang Yingying, all logistics majors at the school's business department — trained intensively under the guidance of teachers Wang Shankun and Chen Mengyuan.

Training was physically demanding: the AGV robots used in the competition weigh more than 150 kilograms each, and the students had to move and assemble two of them by themselves. After each round of simulation lasting nearly an hour, the teachers reviewed video footage frame by frame with the students. Their list of problems, which once filled four or five pages, was eventually reduced to a single page.

School leaders visited the training site on multiple occasions, providing equipment, training plans, psychological support and logistics, and encouraging the students, saying they represented not only themselves but also the school and Linyi.

The school said it will continue to use the competition to drive teaching, promote craftsmanship, and encourage more students to pursue careers in skilled trades.
