"Yimeng spirit at Shandong University" and Shandong University Linyi Day were held at the university's central campus in Jinan on Oct 13 and 14, the first time Linyi, East China's Shandong province, has entered a university in the form of a city-themed day.
Shandong University and Linyi share deep roots. Linyi is the core birthplace of the Yimeng spirit and also where Shandong University's revolutionary heritage took shape. In 1945, the Shandong provincial government founded "Linyi Shandong University" in the Yimeng revolutionary base area, and its first president, Li Chengzhi, was a native of Linyi. In 1951, the school merged into the National Shandong University.
Cooperation between the city and the university has produced solid results. More than 1,000 students from Linyi study at Shandong University, more than 2,000 of its graduates have settled in Linyi, and 33 of its distinguished teachers have served in temporary science and technology posts and specialist roles in the city. Over the past five years, Linyi enterprises have carried out nearly 100 industry-university-research cooperation projects with the university, drawing more than 300 million yuan ($42.25 million) in social investment.
On the evening of Oct 13, a themed presentation titled "The Yimeng Spirit Passed Down Through Generations" was held. Opening with the melody of "Yimeng Mountain Minor," more than ten programs including "Sending Troops to Shandong," "Roots in Yimeng, Youth at Shandong University," "The Old Revolutionary Area Remains Young and Vigorous" and "High Mountains, Long Rivers" were staged through lectures, situational drama and song-and-dance performances.
Linyi has grown into a regional central city in southern Shandong and northern Jiangsu and is moving toward becoming a provincial sub-central city and a city with a GDP of one trillion yuan.

On the morning of Oct 14, the launch ceremony of Shandong University Linyi Day and a youth talent recruitment presentation were held. Key enterprises from Linyi presented their industrial advantages and talent needs, the city released a list of key projects for the 2026 "open bidding for key challenges" program, and a batch of city-university and enterprise-university cooperation projects were signed.
Zhang Hongwei, chairman of Shandong Lumei Magnetic Materials Co Ltd, said the company will build a joint laboratory and training base with the university, establish a regular collaboration mechanism, attract quality talent and commercialize research results to help upgrade Linyi's manufacturing sector.
Sixty-one enterprises from Linyi, five colleges based in the city and five municipal hospitals set up booths, offering more than 1,400 quality positions covering high-end equipment, modern pharmaceuticals, new materials, information technology, education and health care.

Zhang Zuhua, a master's student at the university's School of Mathematics from Linyi, said he was proud to see his hometown recruiting at the university and hoped to work in basic education in Linyi after graduation.
Ma Yuyang, recruitment director of the human capital center at Lunan Pharmaceutical Group, said that while companies previously entered campuses individually, the government-organized event provided strong support for talent recruitment and industry-university-research cooperation. The company received dozens of résumés from Shandong University students in one morning.
The same day, the university held a seminar on the Yimeng spirit, where the two sides discussed topics including the value of the Yimeng spirit from a grand historical perspective and the artistic translation of revolutionary relics.
