The opening ceremony of the 26th Shandong Province Sports Games is set to take place today at the main stadium of Linyi Olympic Sports Park, marking a historic milestone in the Games' 76-year legacy. This is the first time in the province's premier multi-sport event history that the Games are being hosted in a former revolutionary base area—a significant moment as Linyi steps into the national spotlight.

The Shandong Province Sports Games, first inaugurated in 1950 and now in its 26th edition, stands as the province's largest, most prestigious, and most comprehensive youth sporting event. This year's Games carry added significance, taking place during the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the inaugural year of the "15th Five-Year Plan" period. Hosting the Games in Linyi—the spiritual heartland of the Yimeng revolutionary spirit—offers a powerful platform to showcase the province's high-quality economic and social development achievements and accelerate the construction of a leading sporting province in Shandong.

Scheduled to run from August 26 to September 5, the Games feature opening and closing ceremonies at the stadium and indoor arena of Linyi Olympic Sports Park, respectively. This edition sets new records across the board, with 38 sports, 1,081 events, and 1,620 gold medals on offer—a 19 percent increase in events compared to the previous Games.
