Retired teachers run free calligraphy class for rural children in Hou nanzhuang village

Relying on new‑era civilization‑practice stations, Hou Nanzhuang Village in Bancheng Town, Lanshan District has launched public‑welfare calligraphy courses. Two local retired teachers, Xue Yousheng and Zhang Senlin, volunteer as instructors.

Courses start with hard‑pen calligraphy basics. After children master foundational writing skills, the curriculum gradually moves to brush‑calligraphy practice. In class, teachers explain Chinese character evolution, demonstrate holding‑pen postures, stroke techniques and character structures, and correct pupils’ writing postures in hands‑on guidance.

The village committee provides blackboards, chalk, writing brushes, ink and paper as learning supplies. Volunteers maintain class order and offer logistical support. Many parents accompany their children to attend sessions, blending family‑tradition education with scholarly‑culture building.
