The 12th Provincial Games for Persons with Disabilities & 1st Special Olympics Games of Shandong Province opens in Linyi

The 12th Provincial Games for Persons with Disabilities & 1st Special Olympics Games of Shandong Province officially opened at Linyi Olympic Sports Park on September 17. As Shandong's highest‑level comprehensive sports event for persons with disabilities, it is the first time for Linyi to host such a provincial‑level grand gathering.

Jointly hosting paralympic and special‑olympics competitions for the first time in Shandong, the event comprises 21 major events and 924 sub‑events, attracting over 2,000 athletes from 17 delegations across the province, supported by around 1,400 coaches, referees and working staff.

The opening ceremony with theme Chasing dreams in Yimeng, sharing splendid moments delivered wonderful artistic performances combining Yimeng red‑cultural elements, sign‑language shows, dance, wire stunts and immersive light‑and‑shadow art. Fully‑upgraded barrier‑free venues and well‑trained volunteer teams guarantee safe, thoughtful and inclusive competition conditions for all participants.

Following the opening ceremony, track‑and‑field, swimming, table tennis, badminton and other events will unfold in multiple venues. The games will serve as an important platform to promote public awareness of disability inclusion and showcase the spirit of self‑improvement of athletes with disabilities.
