Tancheng promotes rural civilization by rectifying undesirable customs

Guichang Township of Tancheng County has achieved remarkable results in transforming rural customs. Targeting extravagant weddings and funerals and excessive gift-giving, the township revised village regulations and established rural wedding and funeral councils to standardize relevant rituals and cut unnecessary expenses.

Various forms of publicity are adopted to advocate frugality. Local Liuqin operas, on-site lectures and village radio programs spread new customs in a folksy way. The township also selects model families and virtuous villagers to set examples for residents. Nowadays, frugality, neighborhood mutual assistance and positive cultural activities have become new rural trends.
