Yishui county in Linyi has built a strong lead in China's snack food industry, with purple-wrapped candy and sachima both ranking first nationwide by output, underscoring the county's manufacturing strength and the vitality of its food sector.
Sachima is a sweet snack in Chinese cuisine made of fluffy strands of fried batter bound together with a stiff sugar.
Known as a "China Food City", Yishui has spent decades cultivating its snack food industry and has developed a modern food cluster with a complete industrial chain, diverse product mix and strong supporting capacity.
The county is home to 700 food manufacturers, which together employ more than 50,000 people. Annual food processing volume exceeds 6 million metric tons, covering 29 major categories and more than 1,000 product varieties.
Yishui has built clear advantages in several niche segments. Its purple-wrapped candy accounts for more than 80 percent of the domestic market, while sachima holds a 70 percent market share.
In addition to these bestselling snacks, products such as soybean milk powder, starch sugar and enzyme preparations also rank among the country's leaders in production capacity, forming a diversified and competitive industrial structure.
The county's progress has been driven by both project development and technological innovation. Local companies have continued to upgrade their products and refine their production processes to meet growing demand for healthier and more sophisticated foods.
Supported by Linyi's strength as a logistics hub, Yishui has also achieved the efficient integration of production, warehousing and distribution.
