Shandong previously lacked dedicated provincial-level national pediatric medical hubs, forcing tens of millions of residents in Linyi and surrounding provinces to travel long distances to Shanghai and Jinan for severe childhood illnesses. On June 26, the National Regional Medical Center — Linyi Hospital of Shanghai Children's Medical Center Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine officially opened, filling Linyi's gap in national top-tier pediatric medical resources.

Covering 123 mu with a total investment of 1.885 billion yuan, the hospital has 1,000 planned beds and 37 clinical departments. It adopts the three-way replication model of brand, technology and management from Shanghai's flagship children's hospital. A three-tier expert dispatch mechanism featuring permanent, regular and on-demand consultation ensures homogeneous diagnosis and treatment standards between the Linyi branch and Shanghai headquarters. During trial operation, it received 15,000 patients and performed 1,500 Grade III & IV surgeries, with 71 new medical technologies filling provincial and municipal gaps. After opening, it launches online reservation for Shanghai specialists, cross-hospital two-way referral green channels and special charity assistance for sick children from low-income families.

The launch of the center optimizes the balanced layout of high-quality pediatric medical resources in Shandong and neighboring provinces. Linyi will keep deepening cross-city medical cooperation and build a leading regional pediatric treatment base serving Shandong, Jiangsu, Henan and Anhui.
