Lanling Daicun cuts extravagant wedding and funeral costs via custom reform

Daicun Village of Lanling County has practiced custom reform for over 20 years by building public catering halls and standardizing wedding and funeral procedures to slash residents’ritual expenses.

The village invested over 2 million yuan to build free public banquet halls and mourning halls, issuing strict rules to limit banquet scale, betrothal gifts and extravagant rituals. Cadres and Party members take the lead in simplified ceremonies. Over 20 million yuan of collective savings have been created for villagers in two decades. In 2025, village total output value reached 3.8 billion yuan with per capita income at 70,000 yuan.

The integration of custom governance and elderly care services promotes a civilized rural atmosphere. Daicun's replicable model provides a typical example of rural spiritual civilization construction across Yimeng region.
