Focusing on carbon‑peaking and carbon‑neutrality goals, Lingang Economic‑development Zone presses ahead with green transformation of its steel industry. Relying on Linyi Gangtou New‑Energy hydrogen‑production base, the district makes full use of by‑products from coking processes and builds a closed‑loop “steel‑coking‑chemical‑hydrogen” circular industrial chain, unlocking new industrial potential from waste and exhaust resources.

In the past, coking‑oven gas generated in coking workshops was simply treated for emission compliance. Today, pipelines transport the by‑product gas to purification facilities. Through desulfurization, denitrification, dust removal and pressure‑swing‑adsorption separation processes, the waste gas is converted into high‑purity hydrogen and LNG clean‑energy products.

The project can recycle 350 million cubic meters of coking‑oven gas annually, yielding around 200 million cubic meters of high‑purity hydrogen and 70,000 tons of LNG. High‑purity hydrogen is supplied to nearby enterprises for oil‑product deep processing, while methane‑rich gas is delivered to local chemical firms. Meanwhile, dry‑quenching‑coke technology recovers sensible heat from red‑hot coke for power‑grid supply; waste tar residues and acid tar are sent back into coking furnaces to realize zero outward transfer of hazardous waste.

Beyond gaseous exhaust recycling, Lingang also promotes recycling of solid industrial waste. Enterprises such as Zhongqing Environmental carry out high‑value regeneration of waste lead and other solid scraps. Solid‑waste and gaseous‑waste recycling projects jointly form a complete circular‑economy system.

The circular‑economy model changes the old mindset of merely “treating pollution” toward “maximizing resource value”. Lingang keeps promoting low‑carbon upgrading across the whole industrial chain, offering a replicable green‑transition sample for Shandong's steel and coking industries.
