Linyi blends food, culture, and tourism to boost nighttime economy

2026-09-18

In early autumn, the Yimeng region comes alive with a vibrant blend of culinary energy and cultural charm, as a grand food festival in Lanshan district, Linyi, Shandong, draws crowds with free stir-fried chicken tastings, transforming the ancient city's nights into a spectacular celebration.

How did one dish become a city-wide phenomenon? The answer lies in Linyi's rich culinary heritage. At the festival, two premium banquet menus and a list of 32 signature dishes were unveiled — each blending local flavors with the region's calligraphy and history. Linyi's dining scene is currently shifting from a focus on selling products to a focus on selling culture.

As a core hub of China's renowned market city, Lanshan district boasts hundreds of wholesale markets and rich cultural resources. To transform commercial foot traffic into lasting tourism appeal, the district is pioneering a "commerce-tourism integration" model. Six sample markets now blend shopping with cultural experiences, five of which have been designated as national 3A-level scenic spots. From immersive retail services to intangible cultural heritage stations, shopping has become a journey of cultural discovery in Lanshan district.

Nighttime innovation is also accelerating. The Shuiyun Langya complex features new attractions such as theatrical stages and water performances, while a former cement factory has been transformed into a creative park. A full-day consumption loop based on the slogan"shop by day, cruise by night, stay in Lanshan" is taking shape. From January to August, the Shuiyun Langya tourism area welcomed over 4 million visitors as Linyi converts its local flavors into a powerful driver of urban development.
