Lanshan district in Linyi, opened parking lots at government and public institutions free of charge to the public during the National Day holiday, winning praise from visitors from other provinces and cities.
"As soon as I arrived, I saw a sign at the district government compound saying that parking spaces were open to the public free of charge. It was very convenient, and I really felt the hospitality of Linyi people," said Li Houyi, a self-driving tourist from Yantai who parked at the compound before heading to the Yinqueshan Han Bamboo Slips Museum.
The museum, a major cultural attraction in the district, draws large numbers of visitors during holidays. This year, lots at the Lanshan district government, the district administrative approval service bureau, the Linyi Teachers' Training School and the Xiyanchi Primary School were all opened to the public.
Vehicles from Tianjin, Jiangsu, Henan and elsewhere parked in an orderly manner at the district government compound, with traffic police directing vehicles and volunteers providing information and guidance.
To ease parking shortages during the peak holiday travel season, the district has inventoried 28 parking sites in areas with acute shortages, including schools, large shopping malls and residential communities. Without compromising fire access, traffic safety and municipal landscaping, it converted 12 sites into public parking resources, providing 1,639 free parking spaces. It also compiled a networked ledger of 120 parking lots and completed the networking of 17 public lots to regulate parking order and expand the holiday supply of urban parking.
