Known as China's canning capital, Linyi's Pingyi county in Shandong province is comprehensively reshaping its traditional canning industry into a leading green fruit and vegetable processing cluster.

By integrating innovation, supply, and value chains, the sector has become a vital pillar for boosting local employment, increasing farmer incomes, and expanding the county's real economy.

To strengthen its industrial core, Pingyi is advancing intelligent upgrades through leading enterprises and high-level innovation platforms.

The county invested 4 million yuan ($590,000) to establish the China Canned Food Industry Innovation Research Institute, partnering with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and eight leading enterprises to develop high-value products. Just shy of 10 new self-developed items are set for production this year as a result.

At the same time, Pingyi is addressing its historical reliance on external components by recruiting upstream and downstream partners. Attracting automated equipment manufacturing and glass packaging projects has successfully formed an integrated, self-sustaining industrial cluster with localized procurement and shared logistics.

Furthermore, the county is expanding value-added spaces through dual online and offline supply chain strategies. By leveraging Amazon, major livestreaming platforms, and established overseas logistics bases, Pingyi continues to lower cross-border costs, secure international trade channels, and elevate its global market presence.
