Linyi promoted itself as a strong tourism destination at Fudan University in Shanghai on June 16, presenting the Yimeng region as a convenient getaway for young travelers to the Yangtze River Delta.
The event was part of the "Friendly Shandong, Youth Journey" campaign organized by the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and Tongcheng Travel. On the square near the Guanghua Building at Fudan's Handan campus, students got better acquainted with Linyi through games, food and heritage displays.
The program turned tourism resources into playful campus experiences. Students generated personalized newspapers, joined ring-toss games inspired by Linyi landmarks, took football shooting challenges and collected "Friendly Shandong" stamps. At Linyi's booth, willow weaving, Yimeng paper-cutting, folding fans, lanterns and local pancakes drew crowds.
"I am from Shandong and I have studied at Fudan for two years. I have not smelled this pancake aroma for a long time. I must go back this summer," one student remarked.
On the main stage, Linyi tourism promoters introduced signature foods, including Linyi fried chicken and pancakes, as well as Mengshan Mountain, the Yihe River, the Former Residence of Wang Xizhi, Menglianggu and Langya Ancient City. They also highlighted the city's three-to-four-hour high-speed rail access from Shanghai and its goal of attracting Yangtze River Delta weekend travelers.
