A bamboo-wood composite container flooring panel measuring 8.6 by 2.4 meters made its debut at the 15th Linyi Wood Industry Expo on Sept 22, becoming a highlight of the exhibition. The world's first panel of its size rolled off the production line at Shandong Yongqing Fude New Materials Co in Bianqiao High-end Wood Industry and Home Furnishing Industrial Park in Pingyi county, Linyi in East China's Shandong province, on Sept 15, marking a new level in the city's smart manufacturing of wood-based new materials.
Lin Zelie, deputy general manager of production at the company, said the product replaces traditional timber with fast-growing bamboo, replaces high energy consumption with a green and low-carbon process, and replaces low-end, homogeneous competition with a more specialized track. Its biggest advantage is that one panel replaces the eight traditionally spliced together, cutting the use of adhesives and nails while making the flooring stronger, better looking and easier to install. The company focuses on bamboo-wood composite specialty panels, which can also be used in high-end fields such as rail transit. Once at full capacity, the project is expected to generate annual output value of 500 million yuan ($70 million) and drive the clustering of upstream and downstream suppliers.
The project is invested and operated by Fujian Yongqing Bamboo Industry Group, a national key leading forestry enterprise. It settled in the park in June and produced its first panel in just 100 days, reflecting Pingyi's business environment and efforts to attract leading wood industry companies.
Wood processing is a pillar industry in Pingyi, which has formed a complete chain from log imports to smart home furnishing. The county is now home to 540 wood enterprises, including 146 above designated size, with annual output of 10 million cubic meters of panels and 500,000 sets of furniture.
Pingyi has adopted a 16-character strategy: benchmarking panel production against Huzhou, home furnishing against Guangzhou and policies against Guigang; pursuing high-end, smart, green and clustered development; and carrying out five actions to extend, strengthen and supplement the industrial chain, cultivate enterprises in tiers, lead through technological innovation, build brands and shape the industrial ecosystem. A layout has taken shape with the Bianqiao park at the core and four industrial clusters in Wenshui, Tongshi, Linjian and Fengyang developing in coordination.
The county also plans a "park within a park" covering more than 400 mu (about 27 hectares) for bamboo-wood composite products integrating bamboo processing, flooring manufacturing and container decoration, aiming to build a 5-billion-yuan industrial cluster within three years and the largest base for bamboo-wood composite container flooring in the region north of the Yangtze River.
"We are implementing the city's strategy for the high-end panel and green smart home furnishing industrial chain, taking the building of specialized and standardized parks as our goal, adopting a chain-based approach to industrial development and a solutions-oriented approach to services, and making solid progress in shifting from low-end to high-end, from rough to refined processing, from panels to home furnishing, and from domestic to overseas markets," said Gong Chuangang, Party secretary of Bianqiao town.
